The Ecsta XS Makes History

Kumho Tires to offer Ride and Drive at Classic Motorsports Mitty 09'

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. (April 27, 2009)—Kumho Tires is proud to announce our participation in the Classic Motorsports Mitty 09’at Road Atlanta Raceway located in Braselton, GA. Kumho Tires will conduct a Ride and Drive with the opportunity to pilot a Mazda Mx-5 on our new Ecsta XS Ultra High Performance Tire.

The Ride and Drive will feature the Kumho Ecsta XS Ultra High Performance Tire mounted on a Skip Barber Racing School Mazda Mx-5. Designed for SCCA racing that demands high Uniform Tire Quality Grades, the Ecsta XS delivers unrivaled dry grip with split-second steering response, and its unique footprint is designed to deliver consistent handling performance at high G-forces.

The Mitty began in 1978 with a handful of Atlanta-area road racing enthusiasts who were looking for a safe place to exercise their cars at speed. Road Atlanta offered just the venue.  Through the years, the Mitty has become a spring tradition in Atlanta.  In 2004 Classic Motorsports magazine became the title sponsor and event co-promoter. In that same year, Kumho Tires and Moss Motors became platinum partners.  Mazda became a presenting sponsor in 2005.  Today, the Mitty lays claim to being the largest and best vintage/historic-racing event on the entire East Coast.

“It’s a win win for Kumho, it gives us a chance to get instant feedback from the consumer while supporting the racing community” said Jason Myers from Kumho Motorsports Division. “It’s very exciting to see the faces of people after driving our tires to the limit in a controlled environment”.  “They rarely get the opportunity to feel the capabilities of a tire in extreme conditions, so we help them understand how to use the tire in a safe and efficient manner for peak performance”.

Consumers are invited to drive the Mazda Mx-5 cars fitted with the Ecsta XS and experience the performance firsthand from the drivers seat. The Ride and Drive will be free for all licensed drivers Saturday May 2, with a gate entry ticket.
